A large crest, made from wood.

The Joint Interagency Task Force–Counter Cartel emblem needed to be converted into engraving‑ready artwork, and its size called for a custom hardwood panel. Preparing Poplar gave the engraving a clean, consistent surface and produced a stronger, more durable finished piece.

A large hardwood panel was built from individual Poplar pieces and prepared as a single, smooth surface. That panel gave the laser a clean, stable canvas from which it could engrave the emblem’s detail and cut the crest to shape—producing a finished piece worthy of the combined forces it represents.

A shape, a silhouette, or a line can carry years of memory and the weight of a life lived alongside it. Athena’s drawing does that for me. It brings back the good years we had together and the sadness of her passing, all held in a form that represents more than the image itself.

01 / Engraving

Where design meets material

Laser engraving is the point where artwork and substrate have to work together. The laser doesn’t just burn a pattern into the surface — it interprets the design through the grain, density, and finish of the material. Good engraving comes from choosing the right surface, preparing it properly, and shaping the artwork so the laser can carry fine detail cleanly into wood, acrylic, or metal. The result is a mark that belongs to the material, not one that sits on top of it.

02 / Cutting

Turning artwork into form

Cutting is where the design becomes an object. A vector path isn’t just a line on a screen — it’s the future edge of a piece someone will hold, mount, or present. Material stability, layout, and preparation determine whether that edge is crisp, true, and faithful to the artwork. A good cut lets the final piece follow the design’s actual silhouette, giving it presence and purpose instead of the default rectangle most shops settle for.
